Abducted schoolgirls allegedly married off for N2,000, moved abroad

OK, here’s seriously hoping that this is not true. But according to reports, the 234 girls abducted at Government Girls College on April 15th may have been married off for N2,000 each and may also have been removed from the Nigeria to neighbouring countries like Chad and Cameroon.

Daily Trust reports

Most of the 234 Borno schoolgirls in Boko Haram captivity have been ferried abroad to Chad and Cameroon after they were married off to sect members on N2,000 bride price each, an elder told Daily Trust yesterday.

Dr. Pogu Chibok, who is the leader of the Chibok Elders Forum, told Daily Trust yesterday that latest information available to them indicates that most of the girls have been taken to the neighboring Cameroon and Chad by their captors.

He said before they were ferried in canoes across the Lake Chad, a wedding ceremony was conducted at a town on the border with Cameroon where they were married off to Boko Haram militants. Continue…

He said N2,000 was paid as bride price on each of the girls to the specific Boko Haram members who took them from their school and who had assumed “ownership” of the students.
“They ferried them in canoes to Cameroon and Chad republic after they were wedded off to Boko Haram members who bidded (sic) and paid N2,000 each as dowries on their heads,” Bitrus said.
“The dowry was paid to their captors, the very people who abducted them from their school. One of them who married one of the girls took her to a border town close to Cameroon where villagers saw her.”
Following their abduction, the schoolgirls were thought to be first taken to the Boko Haram camps in the notorious Sambisa Forest. Reports later said villagers had seen the girls being conveyed in trucks to other locations.
Bitrus said yesterday: “So many sources have informed us that the girls have been taken to Cameroon. Many villagers said they saw the girls being transported in trucks and then in canoes.
“On Sunday they were taken to Dikwa area where they (Boko Haram) have a camp there. From there they took them to Marte, then Monguno before they were finally ferried in canoes. It was yesterday we got this latest report of them being married off to the insurgents by their captors.”
He said sources in Cameroon told them that most of the girls were now being held at “an area where the Boko Haram operates in Cameroon.”
On whether military authorities were informed about the movements of the girls, Bitrus said: “The military was alerted on Tuesday about two weeks ago when some villagers saw many of the girls being transported in trucks, some with even their school uniforms. The villagers tried calling the senator representing the zone but they couldn’t get him so they went to Bama barracks where they reported the matter.
“At the Bama barracks they were told that they must put it in writing, that that is the military tradition. At that time if the military had intervened they would have stopped them from reaching their destination.
“And the fact that for nearly two weeks we have been talking about this and nothing is being done, then there are questions we have to ask. Nobody did anything.”
Bitrus sobbed as he spoke to our reporter yesterday.
“What is happening with the Nigerian nation? I think we demand some answers. Today it is happening to these unfortunate girls from Chibok, tomorrow it may be somewhere else and that is why all Nigerians must rally around us on this,” he said.
“If these captors are trying to achieve a political point, I think the best thing is for us to try to make sure that they don’t succeed but from all indications they are succeeding due to inaction of government. It is helping these people in achieving their objectives.”
Earlier yesterday, Bitrus spoke to the BBC Hausa radio saying “parents of these girls have been angry that despite the existence of government, there has not been concrete effort from government on the matter.
“Female parents have been crying day and night, because nobody knows what government is doing about the whole issue. All that we read in the papers is that Nigerian Army have done this or that.”
When contacted over claims that the military was informed of the movement of the schoolgirls, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, told Daily Trust: “The concern and anxiety from all quarters is quite understandable. Please be assured that as much as the forces may not disclose details of action being taken to secure the freedom of the girls, every information received on the subject is duly analyzed and acted upon as necessary.
“No information is being ignored in the concerted effort to ensure the safety and freedom of the girls. Just pray for the successful outcome of all efforts please.”

REVEALED!! Why Boko Haram Bombed Nyanya Park & Kidnap School Girls!

While the nation and relatives of the victims of Nyanya Motor Park in Abuja are still counting their losses over the Boko Haram bombing spree that killed nearly 100 innocent citizens, the nation is still battling to unravel the whereabouts of 200 school girls kidnapped by the terrorist group about two weeks now.

In the wake of these ugly incidents, which the Federal Government is yet to have an answer or solution to, Global Village Extra can authoritatively report that these two incidents are reprisal attacks from the Boko Haram sect.
The insurgents, it was gathered, were angered by the killing of their strong members during a jailbreak attempt and subsequent shootout with men of the State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja.
Global Village Extra gathered from an impeccable source that intelligence reports from a team of State CID and SSS officials, who investigated the Nyanya blasts and the kidnap of the school girls revealed that the Boko Haram terrorists are on a mission to avenge the killing of their members by the SSS.
While the intelligence report also has it that the insurgents are likely to carry out more attacks, most likely in Abuja, security has been beefed up in the in and around the Federal Capital Territory.
But whether those who reside at the outskirts of Abuja, like Nyanya are effectively secured is another question that needs to be addressed.

It’s a moment of jollification and celebration for the veteran actor, Kayode Odumosu, otherwise known as Pa Kasumu, who is now bursting out of his health challenge.  The ace thespian has finally moved into his new three bedroom bungalow in Abeokuta, Ogun State. According to an industry source, the talented role interpreter has moved from his Alayaki, Mushin, Lagos residence, where he had lived for about 10 years. The source said that despite the recuperating state of the ace comedian, he was still very much joyous and excited about the new development, singing praises in appreciation of what God has done in his life.

“Pa Kasumu is very happy at the moment. He has finally moved into his new house in Abeokuta, Ogun State. I learnt he relocated on Thursday, April 17, 2014. I also learnt that his former place in Mushin, Lagos, has been occupied by another person. I learnt he should have moved to the place since January but due to the delay in the renovation of his newly acquired house. He was asked to remain in Mushin till everything was completed. I really thank God for him. He has started a new life entirely.”

An inside source also revealed to ENCOMIUM Weekly that fortune has continued smiling on the renowned film maker as he has just won N500,000, via the popular MTN sponsored television programme, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (WWTBAM).

“I learnt Pa Kasumu just won N500,000 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire programme, and he is so happy about it. I believe with that, his dream of travelling abroad for further treatment will soon be realized.”

ENCOMIUM Weekly, in a bid to confirm the news, put a call through to Pa Kasumu’s mobile phone on Friday, April 18, 2014, but it was picked by a woman who identified herself as his younger sister. She told us that the Odogbolu, Ogun born theatre practitioner was out of town at the moment.

“Pa Kasumu is not around, but he left his phone. He travelled out of Ogun State. He went for treatment. I will inform him as soon as he returns.”

We later contacted his spokesperson and coordinator, Save Pa Kasumu Initiative, Mrs. Idowu  Olajide, and she confirmed to us that the comic thespian has relocated to his new Abeokuta, Ogun State home, adding that he is happier and much better now.

“It’s true that Pa Kasumu has vacated his Mushin, Lagos residence finally. He left on Thursday, April 17, 2014. He now lives permanently in Abeokuta. You will soon be invited to the place. He would be happy to grant you a full interview to show his appreciation to all that stood by him till date. He only comes to Lagos on Tuesday of every week for treatment. He is very much better now.”

Asked to comment on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’s N500,000 prize said to have been won by Pa Kasumu, she reacted, “It’s true that he won the prize but he is yet to collect the money. It’s not a kind of money that’s paid instantly. But hopefully, very soon, he will collect it.”
